Month Themes: Hispanic Heritage Month

September marks National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. This is a fantastic opportunity to host panels and internal discussions to educate employees on this topic. It's not only about learning the history, but also celebrating how Hispanic Heritage and culture is celebrated today.

September 2 - Labor Day 🛠

Labor Day honors the contributions and achievements of American workers and the labor movement.

Idea: Create a relaxing day for your team with a company-wide picnic at a local park, complete with games, food, and recognition awards for outstanding employees to foster a sense of appreciation and community.

September 5 - International Charity Day ❤️

This day promotes charity and encourages charitable deeds worldwide.

Idea: Organize a charity drive that could include donating goods, fundraising for a cause, and a team volunteer outing. Engage employees by letting them nominate and vote on the charities to support.

September 10 - World Suicide Prevention Day 💡

Dedicated to raising awareness about suicide prevention and the actions we can take to prevent such tragedies.

Idea: Host a comprehensive seminar on mental health that includes talks by healthcare professionals and interactive workshops on stress management, recognizing signs of distress, and how to provide support. Provide information about mental health resources, including counseling services, crisis hotlines, and employee assistance programs (EAPs). Review and promote policies that support mental health, such as flexible working hours and mental health days.

September 12 - Video Games Day 🎮

A fun day dedicated to celebrating the art and science behind video games.

Idea: Set up gaming stations around the workplace or an online tournament for remote employees, featuring popular video games. Include prizes for winners and snack bars to create a festive atmosphere.

September 16 - National Working Parents Day 👪

A day to appreciate the hard-working parents juggling their careers and family responsibilities.

Idea: Organize a 'bring your child to work day' with activities such as a tie dye workshop for kids. Provide resources or a talk on work-life balance.

September 18 - International Equal Pay Day ⚖️

A call to action to highlight the need for equal pay regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background.

Idea: Arrange for workshops and a panel discussion around pay equity. This could help employees understand their worth in the workplace.

September 21 - International Day of Peace and Oktoberfest begins 🕊️🍻

Celebrate both peace among nations and the joyful spirit of Oktoberfest.

Idea: Host a dual-themed event featuring a peace circle discussion in the morning followed by an Oktoberfest celebration with traditional foods, drinks, and music in the afternoon to promote cultural appreciation and unity.

September 22 - Fall Begins 🍂

The official start of the fall season, characterized by cooler temperatures and falling leaves.

Idea: Organize a scenic fall foliage tour or a local farm visit for apple picking. Alternatively, host an autumn festival at the office with seasonal crafts, pumpkin spice treats, and a hot apple cider station.

September 27 - World Tourism Day 🌍

A day to foster awareness of the social, cultural, political, and economic value of tourism.

Idea: Create a virtual tour event where employees share insights and images from their favorite travel destinations, complete with cultural music and food samples from around the world.

September 30 - National Truth and Reconciliation Day 🧡

A day for all Canadians to honor the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities.

Idea: Organize an educational session featuring Indigenous speakers who can discuss the history and impact of residential schools as well as the significance of reconciliation. Wear orange clothing to honor the day and show your support.
